On September 3, Yan Weihua, Deputy Party Secretary and General Manager of China National Electric Engineering Co., Ltd. (CNEEC), met with Taalaibek Ibraev, Minister of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic, and his delegation at the company’s headquarters. The delegation came to China to attend the SCO Summit. The two sides reviewed the progress of CNEEC’s key projects in Kyrgyzstan, agreed to deepen cooperation in the energy sector, and signed cooperation agreements.
Yan Weihua warmly welcomed Taalaibek Ibraev and his delegation and expressed sincere gratitude to the Ministry of Energy for its long-term support and assistance in the Uch-Kurgan Hydropower Plant Modernization Project. He also thanked Kyrgyzstan for entrusting CNEEC with the important task of renovating two generator units of the Uch-Kurgan Hydropower Plant in 2026. With its mature technical system, rich experience in contract fulfillment, and professional team, CNEEC has the ability and confidence to complete the two-unit renovation on schedule and up to high quality standards.
When it came to future cooperation plans, Yan Weihua pointed out that the Uch-Kurgan Hydropower Plant Modernization Project is the cornerstone of cooperation. Taking this project as a starting point, CNEEC will gain a deeper understanding of Kyrgyzstan’s needs in power plant upgrading, energy technology iteration, and infrastructure improvement. By upgrading the cooperation from the single project to an all-around, in-depth energy strategic partnership, CNEEC will help Kyrgyzstan build a more stable and efficient energy supply system.
During the talks, Taalaibek Ibraev highly praised CNEEC for its professional strength and contract fulfilment. The two-unit renovation in 2026 is an important breakthrough in Kyrgyzstan’s energy sector, which is vital to improving country’s power supply capacity and has drawn high attention of Kyrgyz President. It is of crucial significance to the country’s energy development strategy. To ensure smooth progress of the project, the Ministry of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic will establish a dedicated coordination mechanism in cooperation with Severelektro, the national power utility of Kyrgyzstan, and take the initiative to coordinate with CNEEC, addressing potential issues in project approval and resource allocation and thus clearing obstacles for project delivery.
